Lot 1244 WEIMAR ERA DWM "1920/1921" DOUBLE DATE P.08 POLICE
LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 3218n. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol produced by DWM in 1920 for police use. The top of the bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1921" over the top of the chamber, with 3 Eagle/WaA4" proofs marked on the right (single Eagle/WaA4 proof repeated on top of bbl. and left side of breechblock). Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Front grip strap retains minimal traces of a former unit marking, which was later scrubbed. Metal components exhibit a police arsenal reapplied blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector, which are strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Left side of the bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety, with the left side of the frame being cut for a Walther mag. safety (safety entirely removed). All serialized parts are matching (many numbers likely applied at a police arsenal) and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, firing pin, and rear toggle pin. Breechblock, extractor, and toggle links are matching via a relatively unusual "2/ 18". MAGS: x1 matching plated 8-rd., with aluminum plug marked with a police Star/K proof above "1/ 3218". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their police arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some spots and patches of light to mild wear that have faded to gray patina, with scattered spots of light pitting present beneath the bluing. Strawed parts retain good amounts of their finish, exhibiting areas of wear fading to gray patina and spotted age related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting, while retaining good, albeit worn rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some superficial nicks and marks, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6068/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
